Incoloy 800, Incoloy 800H and 800HT, are all nickel-iron-chromium alloys, with similar basic composition. However, Incoloy 800 differs from the other two alloys, due to the higher level of carbon in alloy 800H, and the addition of up to 1.20% aluminum and titanium in alloy 800HT. The high nickel and chromium contents of Incoloy 800H, 800HT and 800 ensure excellent resistance to oxidation. Incoloy 800 is primarily used in applications with temperatures up to 1100° F, where alloys 800H and 800HT are normally used in temperatures above 1100° F where resistance to creep and rupture is required.

Incoloy 825 is a nickel-iron-chromium alloy, with addition of molybdenum and copper, exhibiting excellent corrosion resistance in both reducing and oxidizing media. Alloy 825 offers good mechanical properties at both room and elevated temperatures, up to approximately 550???.

Alloy 600 or Inconel 600, is one of the most popular high temperature alloy and is commonly identified as UNS N06600. Inconel 600 is a non-magnetic nickel-chromium alloy, with features of excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical properties, in addition to good weldability under a wide range of temperatures.

Inconel 601 is a nickel-chromium alloy, with an addition of aluminum, which exhibits excellent resistance to high temperature oxidation. The addition of aluminium allows it to demonstrate high mechanical properties even in extremely hot environments.

Inconel 625 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy, with addition of niobium that acts with the molybdenum to strengthen the alloy’s matrix, resulting in outstanding strength and toughness. Inconel 600 alloy is chromium and nickel alloy that is used for the applications that need high temperature and corrosion resistance. Inconel 600 is developed for those services temperatures that range from cryogenic to an elevated temperature at 2000 Deg F. Inconel 600 alloy is nonmagnetic and is having excellent mechanical properties and is presenting the desirable combination of both good weldability and high strength under the temperature ranges. Inconel 600 high nickel alloy content enables it in retaining considerable resistance under the reducing conditions, thus making it corrosion resistant to many organic/inorganic compounds. Hastelloy is a nickel-molybdenum-chromium superalloy with an addition of tungsten designed to have excellent corrosion resistance in a wide range of severe environments. The high nickel and molybdenum contents make the nickel steel alloy especially resistant to pitting and crevice corrosion in reducing environments while chromium conveys resistance to oxidizing media. The low carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation during welding to maintain corrosion resistance in as-welded structures. This nickel alloy is resistant to the formation of grain boundary precipitates in the weld heat-affected zone, thus making it suitable for most chemical process application in an as welded condition.

Although there are several variations of the Hastelloy nickel alloy, Hastelloy C-276 is by far the most widely used.

Alloy C-276 is widely used in the most severe environments such as chemical processing, pollution control, pulp and paper production, industrial and municipal waste treatment, and recovery of sour natural gas.

 

Corrosion Resistant Hastelloy

Considered one of the most versatile corrosion resistant alloys available, Hastelloy C-276 exhibits excellent resistance in a wide variety of chemical process environments including those with ferric and cupric chlorides, hot contaminated organic and inorganic media, chlorine, formic and acetic acids, acetic anhydride, seawater, brine and hypochlorite and chlorine dioxide solutions. In addition, alloy C-276 resists formation of grain boundary precipitates in the weld heat affected zone making it useful for most chemical processes in the as-welded condition. This alloy has excellent resistance to pitting and stress corrosion cracking.

With regards to the difference between Nickel 200 and Nickel 201, Nickel 201 carries lower carbon content resulting in lower hardness. The lower carbon content in Nickel 201 also makes the material more resistant to graphitization and also helps in preventing embrittlement. Nickel 200 is generally used for service up to 570° F (300 °C) to 600° F, meanwhile Nickel 201 is generally approved for service up to 1200° F to 1230° F.
